Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) has announced the Hudson Valley has received over $85,000,000 in Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grants, made possible by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and administered by the Department of Transportation. The grant funds will help the Hudson Valley’s public transportation systems respond to COVID-19.
Transit providers across the state have seen a sharp decline in ridership, and face operational challenges related to increased sanitation efforts. These funds will also help pay transit workers across the state not working because of the pandemic.
“Hudson Valley’s transportation providers are taking a huge hit right now because of the coronavirus, and need support to stay operational - while also keeping mass transit safe for every customer. We’ve got to make sure that our transit agencies keep running because many essential workers – including frontline health care workers combatting the virus – rely on them to get to work. I’m proud to announce that the Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and Middletown areas will receive over $85 million in grants from the CARES Act, which will help the transit we rely on stay afloat. I will continue to fight to further strengthen our transportation and infrastructure in our next coronavirus emergency response bill,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.
In total, the state of New York will receive $4,158,708,448 in Federal Transit Administration Grants.
Rep. Maloney serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He is the Chair of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee.
