Update: Georgia recount gives Biden 16 more Electoral Votes, another recount may be requested by Trump Campaign

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced late yesterday the results of the state’s hand recount of ballots and affirmed that  former Vice-President President Joe Biden won the state.  Biden beat President Donald Trump by just 12,284 votes, according to the final tally which was a slightly smaller margin than in the original results.

"Georgia’s historic first statewide audit reaffirmed that the state’s new secure paper ballot voting system accurately counted and reported results,” said Raffensperger.

Georgia has 16 electoral votes. The State of Georgia had voted Republican in the previous six presidential elections. After the conclusion of the recount, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger faces a Friday (today) deadline to certify statewide results, according to state law. The Trump campaign then has two days to request another recount, which would use scanners. It is unknown at this time if the Trump campaign will request another recount.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported yesterday that the vote recount in Georgia was expected to confirm the election results but it also exposed flaws in voting systems that almost resulted in some ballots being overlooked. They reported that approximately 6,000 votes had been overlooked in three counties. Those votes are now being counted, reducing Joe Biden’s lead over Donald Trump to just 12,781 votes. Trump had gained about 1,400 votes that county election officials hadn’t tallied before the recount.
