Recognizing there is still an election for Putnam County Executive in November, but also fully appreciating the opportunity presented by having no formal opponent, Assemblyman Kevin Byrne has announced his plans to visit, speak with and tour a multitude of county and local government offices from inside and outside Putnam County to solicit additional ideas and best practices.
“Putnam County’s size and proximity to New York City has always put us in a particularly unique situation,” said Byrne. “It’s part of what makes this area so attractive to so many people, but it also often comes with additional bureaucratic hurdles from outside agencies like the DEC. We should never let that or anything else stop us from seeking out newer, better, more cost-effective ways to deliver quality services to our residents.”
Byrne has already met with Steve Acquario, executive director of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) during a special “extraordinary” legislative session in Albany and more recently toured the Crisis Stabilization Center in Dutchess County with numerous other senior county officials, including the chair of the Putnam County Legislature’s Committee on Health Amy Sayegh.
Additional planned visits include meeting with top officials and touring facilities in some of the region’s surrounding counties as well other larger municipal governments in other states associated with the American City & County Exchange (ACCE), an affiliate of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) where Byrne presently serves as New York’s state chairman.
Kevin Byrne is the unopposed Republican & Conservative Party Candidate for Putnam County Executive and is the current New York State Assemblyman for the 94th Assembly District representing portions of Putnam and northern Westchester. He serves as the ranking member on the Assembly Health Committee and chairs the Assembly Minority Conference’s Program Committee.
He previously worked in healthcare administration at NY’s largest private multi-specialty medical group.
He also served as a regional director for the American Heart Association, deputy district director to former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, member of the Putnam Valley Town Planning Board, and was an emergency medical technician for Westchester EMS as well as the Kent Volunteer Fire Department where he served three terms as president.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Scranton and a Master of Public Administration from Marist College.
Kevin Byrne is a lifelong resident of Putnam County and resides in Mahopac with his wife, Briana (Messina) Byrne and their young son Braeden.
