One of our country's most important documents is the Constitution of the United States. This document is the supreme law of the land and outlines both the powers of the federal government and our rights as citizens.
In 2004, President George W. Bush signed Public Law 108-447. Section 111 requires the following:
"Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution."
I am extremely proud that the the administration and staff of the Carmel Central School District not only met the minimum requirements, but went above and beyond to ensure that students of all ages throughout our five schools learned about and now more fully understand the great significance of our Constitution.
Our students exemplified the "Citizenship" component of the "Six C's" at Carmel Schools on Constitution Day and our community is better off for it.
