The Matthew Paterson Elementary School (MPES) in Paterson is now fully equipped to take on the playtime challenges of its most rambunctious students. Thanks to a $16,000 grant from Senator Terrence Murphy, MPES recently purchased new playground equipment that will help keep the students fit and happy for many years to come.
Senator Murphy was on hand on November 9th for the ribbon cutting ceremony that unveiled the new state-of-the-art equipment. What made the day so special for the students was that each grade had its own ribbon ceremony prior to using the new equipment the first time. The seven new pieces of equipment include a zip line and jungle gym as well as individual pieces.
MPES is one of three elementary schools in the Carmel Central School District. It serves a student population of approximately 500 students from kindergarten to 4th grade. MPES has been praised for its balanced curriculum that inspires students to embrace their individuality, pursue their passions, and feed their desire to learn. The students eagerly follow the school's credo: "Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication, Citizenship, Compassion and Creativity."
