“We Hire People With Disabilities” decals program ready to go!

The ARC of Putnam, New York has partnered with Putnam County Legislator Barbara Scuccimarra to promote “We Hire People With Disabilities” decals.

It all started with Marian Heinzinger’s idea to recognize businesses that hire people with disabilities. Marian’s, who has a son with Down syndrome, suggested to legislators at the Sept. 25 Health Committee meeting that businesses that hire young people with disabilities be recognized. She shared that Spins Bowl in Carmel had hired her son, that he enjoyed his job there and wanted to encourage others to hire individuals with disabilities.

The “We Hire People With Disabilities” decal is all inclusive of different types of disabilities. It does not only raise awareness of the businesses that hire people with disabilities but encourages people to raise their awareness of accepting individuals with disabilities and hopes to encourage other businesses to do the same.

Barbara Scuccimarra generously donated the cost of printing the stickers, she contacted a graphic designer, Jennifer Giachinta to create a logo and had stickers printed at Grey Printing in Cold Spring. This decal program is an excellent example of Putnam County’s acknowledgment of how important it is to have equal employment opportunities for all members of our community.

Any business that hires employees with disabilities may contact Scuccimarra for a sticker. Call the ARC of Putnam at 845.278.7272 - email info@arcputnamny.org or Putnam County’s Legislative offices at 845-808-1020 - email putcoleg@putnamcountyny.com.
