Last week, Senator Terrence Murphy stopped into Daria Pascale’s health class at H.H. Wells Middle School to discuss mental health with students and present a $25,000 check that will be used for the district’s mental health counseling program.
In the past, funds made available by Senator Murphy have gone towards repairing the fields and scoreboards, creating the Brewster Community Learning Center, creating programs in Brewster schools for seniors and other community members and more.
Last year, Dr. Henning-Piedmonte made Murphy’s office aware of the district’s need to enhance mental health supports. The check presented made it possible to increase Helga Cluzet’s position as the district’s K-8 mental health counselor from part time to full time.
“If you see someone who needs some help, help them,” he said. “Be friends to your neighbors, it’s easy to do.”
Principal John Clark agreed, adding “You’re in a safe place and we’re always here to help you. Don’t be afraid to say something.”
Afterward, students surrounded the senator, eagerly awaiting his autograph.
Brewster Central School District is very grateful for all that Senator Murphy does to help the children and families of Brewster.
