New 2019 Refuse/Recycling Procedures, Please read your flyer you received in the mail to understand the new procedures for recycling and accepted items. There is some big changes. If you discarded the flyer, there is a copy on the Town Website.

REGULAR REFUSE COLLECTION Regular refuse & recyclables must be available for collection by 6:00 a.m. Garbage must be placed in plastic bags, tied and then put in receptacles with secure lids.

RECYCLING IS MANDATORY NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES, PHONE BOOKS, JUNK MAIL, CORRUGATED CARDBOARD AND COMMINGLED RECYCLABLES (Glass, Cans and Plastic)

NEW Procedures Reinstituting separation of Cardboard/Paper from Commingled Items (cans, plastic and glass) These items must be washed clean

Recycling must be separated into the two types.

TYPE 1 - Cardboard & Paper Only

What must be Recycled?

  • Newspapers
  • Office Paper/Envelopes
  • Magazines & Junk Mail
  • Shredded Paper
  • (shredded paper must be placed in paper bag or closed corrugated box unless a bin with lid is used)
  • Phone & Paperback Books
  • Cardboard Boxes & Packaging - i.e. cereal boxes, pasta boxes etc…
  • Shipping / Appliance boxes (including corrugated)
  • Pizza boxes must be free of any food particles and grease stains.

Soiled boxes will not be collected for recycling.

What is NOT accepted?
 NO Wax Cardboard (dark brown cardboard with wax coating)
 NO Paper Towel Rolls or Toilet Paper Rolls
 NO Coffee Cups
 NO Egg Cartons (Pressed paper or Styrofoam)
 NO Frozen Food Containers
 NO Shoe Boxes
 NO Hard Cover Books
 NO Photos

TYPE 2 - Commingled Glass, Cans & Plastics

Place Items directly in your existing recycle bin or an old clearly labeled garbage pail. ALL GLASS AND PLASTIC CONTAINERS MUST BE WASHED & CLEAN.

What must be Recycled?

  • Rinsed Clean Glass Jars & Bottles (clear and colored)
  • Rinsed Clean Foil Pie Plates, Foil Containers and Aluminum Foil
  • Rinsed Aluminum Lids from Food Jars
  • Rinsed Clean Aluminum Cans
  • Empty Aerosol Cans
  • Plastic containers (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #6), must be washed clean
  • Rinsed Plastic Jugs (recycling triangles # 1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #6)
  • Rinsed Plastic Laundry containers (recycling triangle # 1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #6 )
  • Washed Coffee Containers (aluminum and plastic)

What is NOT accepted?
 NO Plastic Bags of any kind - including dry cleaner bags
 NO Styrofoam materials , windows, mirrors, light bulbs or drinking glasses.
 NO Dirty foil, paint cans or sheet metal.
 NO Hangers (Plastic or Metal)
 NO Plastic Packaging Material
 NO Laundry Baskets
 NO Cooking pots or pans
 NO Utensils (Plastic or Metal)
 NO Electronics, NO Magnets & NO Batteries of any kind
 NO Pens or Pencils
 NO Plastic Straws No Coffee Cups
 NO Snack Bags (Potato Chips, Pretzels etc..)
 NO Prescription Bottles


Plastic Bags may be dropped off at any of several large grocery or retail stores for proper recycling.
DO NOT USE CLEAR OR BLUE BAGS
Your items will not be collected if they are in a bag.
Recycling must be separated into the two types.
BLUE Recycling Stickers are available at the Town Clerks Office & One Main Street
