Southeast GOP names Candidates, Democrats still looking for interested Residents to run

With the new law moving Primary races from September to June many local political committees have started their nomination process for this years elections. Last week, the Southeast Republican Committee (GOP) voted 31-10 to nominate Town Highway Employee Michael Burdick to run for Town Of Southeast Highway Superintendent over incumbent Michael Bruen. Mr. Burdick is a 23 year Town Highway Department worker who recently moved back into town after living in a neighboring community for several years. This is his first time running for public office. Mr Bruen was appointed Highway Superintendent in 2013 and won the position in the 2015 election. Other Republicans earning the GOP committee’s support included town board candidates Edwin Alvarez, an incumbent, and John O’Conner, Supervisor Tony Hay who is seeking reelection, Michele Stancati for town clerk, and Paul Jonke for his county legislative seat.

 In other political news, The Southeast Democratic Committee is looking for experienced, hardworking, community minded people to run for town and county offices in November. There are six seats up for election this year, including Southeast town supervisor, town clerk, two Southeast Town Board positions, and highway superintendent. Each of these positions is a four-year term. In addition, the Putnam County Legislative District 6 seat, which encompasses nine election districts in Southeast, is up for election to a three-year term. Southeast Democrats are actively recruiting candidates to run for these seats.
