Carmel Man Arrested for Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child

Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. reports the arrest of a Carmel man on 3 felony counts of Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child.

In August 2018, investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Bureau of Criminal Investigation were notified, by members of the United States Department of Homeland Security, that they had been monitoring an IP address for the possessing of child exploitation videos. In conjunction with Homeland Security, PCSO investigators conducted an investigation that led to a Carmel resident.

On or about October 11, 2018 the PCSO Investigators obtained a search warrant for a residence in the Town of Carmel. On October 12, 2018 the warrant was executed and a large amount of electronic devices were seized (over 75 items). During the execution of the search warrant, members of the PCSO were assisted by Westchester County Police and Homeland Security.

Over the next several months, members of the PCSO conducted a thorough analysis of the electronic devices that were seized and identified the computer and user responsible for possessing the child exploitation video files. As a result of this investigation, on October 1, 2019, 45 year old Carmel resident, Jason J. Dance was arrested and charged with (3) three counts of Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, §PL 263.11. Dance had surrendered to PCSO members with his attorney and was arraigned by Town of Carmel Justice Thomas Jacobellis. He was released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
