Putnam County Department of Health successfully conducted their “Drive-Thru” influenza vaccination clinic

On Monday October 19th, the Putnam County Department of Health successfully conducted their “Drive-Thru” influenza vaccination clinic which also served as a Point of Dispensing (POD) emergency preparedness exercise.

While remaining in their cars, nearly 200 residents determined to protect themselves and their community from the flu this season rolled down their windows and bared their sleeveless arms as public health nurses administered the vaccines. Also helping with logistics and crowd management at the POD exercise were staff from the Civil Air Patrol, Medical Reserve Corps volunteers and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department who handled security and traffic control.

All personnel worked side-by-side, ensuring the health department met the necessary objectives and “deliverables” for the emergency preparedness drill component. Staff from the NY State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services were also on site to evaluate the exercise and provide feedback that will help to improve future clinics.
