Suspect pled guilty to driving while ability impaired in Greene County on June 15
A Mahopac woman was charged in the fatal hit-n-run on Rt 6N Friday evening was arraigned in Carmel Town Court Sunday Morning before Town Justice Thomas Jacobellis.
Maggie Deperna, 37, is facing charges of second-degree vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal automobile accident, both felonies, for Friday's deadly accident, according to Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley. Langley also noted that she was intoxicated when she was arrested driving a different vehicle then the one involved in the accident. That vehicle involved has been impounded by police pending further investigation into Friday’s Incident. She is currently being held on $100,000 bail according to Putnam County District Attorney Bob Tendy.
Police say it was her second DWI arrest in two months after being cited on the Thruway. Barely 6 weeks ago, on May 15 Deperna was arrested and charged in the town of New Baltimore in Greene County with aggravated driving while intoxicated, according to state police.
She was apprehended on Route 6 near the Westchester/Putnam border in Mahopac early Sunday, about four miles from the scene of Friday's fatality. She is currently was being held on $100,000 bail according to Putnam County District Attorney Robert Tendy.
The victim in Friday evening’s hit-n-run, Jams Crecco, Sr,. Passed away at Westchester Medical Center shortly after being transported to that facility for his injuries. A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist the Crecco Family.
