Brewster Schools Superintendent Addresses Social Media Trend Towards Violence At Schools

The district has been made aware of a new trend on TikTok that threatens violence at schools nationwide. It is believed that the post originated in Texas.  After consulting with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, we were informed that there are currently no specific threats to the Brewster Central School District.

The safety of our students and staff is of paramount importance at the Brewster Central School District. The district maintains trained School Resource Officers at each of our schools, as well as an additional Special Patrol Officer at BHS.  The entirety of their training is to remain vigilant each and every day, and especially in circumstances such as this that warrant additional attention.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to review appropriate use of social media with your child. Here are some resources to help you have these conversations with them and maintain a healthy relationship with technology.

If you or your child witness any suspicious activities on social media, please contact law enforcement immediately.

We will continue to closely monitor this matter in collaboration with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, but at this time no changes to the school day are anticipated.

Respectfully,

Laurie Bandlow, Ed.D.
