Brewster man arrested for assault taxi driver with a knife

On February 11, 2018, the New York State Police from the Brewster barracks arrested Manuel Estabon, age 43, of Brewster, for Assault in the 1st degree, a class B felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree, a class A misdemeanor.
 
On February 11, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Troopers received a call from a taxi driver that he had been assaulted by a customer with a knife.  Investigation determined that the victim was driving the suspect Estabon, to the bank to obtain payment for the taxi services.  Prior to reaching the bank Estabon assaulted the victim with a knife.  The victim suffered wounds to the face, neck, and hands but is in stable condition.  Estabon who fled the crime scene was located in a nearby wooded area.
 
Estabon was arraigned before the town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond.
 
The New York State Police were assisted on scene by the Putnam County Sherriff’s Office, Village of Brewster Police Department, and the Brewster Southeast Joint Fire District ambulance crew.
