On March 16, 2018, the New York State Police conducted an underage drinking enforcement operation in Putnam County. Twenty-eight stores were checked utilizing an underage volunteer to purchase alcohol under the observation of plainclothes investigators and supported by uniformed troopers. Twenty-seven store clerks refused to complete the sale of alcohol to the volunteer. Two clerks, both working at the Brewster Superette, facilitated the sale of an alcoholic beverage to the volunteer and were arrested.
The following persons were charged during the operation:
Maria L. Lopes, age 65, and Igor Lacerda, age 21, employed at the Brewster Superette, located 2586 Carmel Ave, Brewster, NY 10509
Both subjects were charged Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage, under the Alcoholic Beverage Control Laws. They were issued appearance tickets to the Town of Southeast Court on March 27, 2018 and released. In addition, their employers face possible civil penalties imposed by the State Liquor Authority.

The New York State Police, with investigative support provided by the New York State Liquor Authority, routinely conducts underage drinking enforcement operations throughout the state in an effort to curb alcohol abuse and DWI incidents among teenagers.
