Interactive Workshop on Preventing Type 2 Diabetes

Putnam Independent Living Services’ (PILS) offers PreventT2 lifestyle change program at Kent Library

If you have prediabetes, you can cut your risk of developing type 2 diabetes in half by losing 5 to 7 percent of your body weight. That is about 10 to 14 pounds for a person weighing 200 pounds. The workshop begins Thursday, May 24th from 1:45-3:00.

In Putnam Independent Living Services’ (PILS) PreventT2 lifestyle change program, participants work in a group with a trained lifestyle coach to learn the skills needed to lose weight, become more physically active, and manage stress. PreventT2 is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It’s proven to prevent or delay onset of type 2 diabetes.

“Participants in the PreventT2 program are preventing type 2 diabetes by making lasting lifestyle changes,” said Joe Bravo, PILS Executive Director “it’s an evidence based program with positive results.”

The local program is offered at PILS’ offices in Brewster. PreventT2 offers a CDC approved curriculum, a trained lifestyle coach to guide and encourage participants and support for other participants with the same goals as you.  There is no cost to the PILS PreventT2 program. PreventT2 groups meet for a year, weekly for the first 6 months, then once or twice a month for the second 6 months. Program is for adults. Registration is required. You may register for the program by calling the Kent Public Library at 845-225-8585.  The library is located at 17 Sybil's Crossing, Kent Lakes, NY 10512.
