BREWSTER, NY — May 15, 2018 8:00 p.m. — NYSEG, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. The powerful storm resulted in more than 81,000 customer outages. As of 8:00 p.m., there are approximately 72,000 customers without power, and reports of wires down. The public should avoid all downed wires as they may be unsafe. The Company’s first priority is to make conditions safe and determine the extent of the damage. NYSEG offers the following reminders:

  • Stay at least 20 feet from a downed power line
  • If a downed wire comes in contact with your vehicle, stay inside and wait for help. If you must get out because of fire or other danger, jump clear of the vehicle to avoid any contact with the vehicle and the ground at the same time.
