Brewster man arrested for weapons charges

On September 1, 2018, the New York State Police from the Brewster barracks in conjunction with the New York State Police Environmental Conservation Police arrested Gueorgui A. Stoytchev, age 38, of Southeast, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a class C felony, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a class E felony, Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor, two counts of Environmental Conservation Law Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, both unclassified misdemeanors, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a violation.
 
On September 1, 2018, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to Bloomer Road in the town of Southeast for a complaint of shots fired.  Investigation found Stoytchev discharged a legally owned Winchester 30-30 across State Route 6 within 500 feet of neighboring houses.  Stoytchev was issued an appearance ticket and then released.
 
Later in the evening at approximately 8:30 p.m., Troopers returned to Stoytchev’s residence to provide him with additional paperwork.  While interviewing Stoytchev, Troopers observed an illegally possessed Phoenix Arms .25 caliber handgun, and a small amount of marijuana. 

On September 2, 2018, Stoytchev was arraigned before the village of Brewster Court, and remanded to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond. Stoytchev is next scheduled to appear before the town of Southeast Court on September 6, 2018 at 9:30 a.m.
