Brewster Director of Transportation Mary Smith is incredibly proud of bus driver Elke Reimann—and for good reason. Last month, Reimann was making her last stop of the day when a car passed her bus on the right side as three students were about to step out. Thanks to Reimann’s concentration and quick reaction, she was able to stop the students before it was too late.
“A driver's undivided attention is expected during the task of loading and unloading students at a bus stop,” Smith said. “They also have to be prepared to communicate with students at every moment during this complex task. In this case, the driver's undivided attention to her mirrors and the motorists around her enabled her to communicate swiftly with the students.”
“I have good reflexes and I think that’s what saved the day,” she concluded.
While Reimann is modest about the ordeal, Smith cannot sing her praises loud enough. As she says, “Elke Reimann is one of Brewster's best!”
