Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Offers More Than $1 Million in Scholarship Funding to Local Students

High school seniors, undergraduates, and graduate students are invited to apply for more than $1 million in scholarships available through Fairfield County’s Community Foundation.

To qualify, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.7 and reside in one of the nine Bridgeport-area communities: Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Milford, Shelton, Stratford, Trumbull, and Westport.

Online applications can be found HERE. The application deadline is March 31.

The Community Foundation also offers a wide selection of scholarships directly through most high schools in Fairfield County. Students and parents are encouraged to visit their high school’s website or contact their guidance department for additional information about current scholarships and instructions on how to apply.

In 2021, the Community Foundation awarded 410 scholarships totaling nearly $1.2 million. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $7,500 — and some students will have the opportunity to renew their scholarships for multiple years.

“We encourage Fairfield County students to dream big and apply today for these scholarships,” Fairfield County’s Community Foundation President and CEO Juanita James said. “We have a vast array of awards available through the generosity of over 160 fundholders who are investing in improving lives for all of Fairfield County. Together, we can make the future of our community brighter.”

With more than 150 scholarships, students may qualify for any number of opportunities.

Two of the available offerings include:

The Employees Tuberculosis and Respiratory Association (Etra) Health Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students who are pursuing a specialized study in the medical or health fields. Applicants for this award must show a passion for community involvement and a deep interest in continued education with plans to attend a 4-year college or university. Several renewable scholarships will be awarded this year.

The Les Treize Scholarship

Available for graduating seniors from a high school in Bridgeport, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, or Trumbull. Applicants must be African American and must plan to be a full-time student at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university.
