Patriot Bank Scholarship Luncheon Celebrates Commitment to Housatonic Community College Students

On Tuesday, May 3, leaders from Patriot Bank visited Housatonic Community College (HCC) for a scholarship luncheon with HCC leadership and Patriot Bank scholarship recipients. For the past five years, Patriot Bank has supported high-achieving, low-income HCC students with scholarship grants.

At the luncheon, students shared personal stories of how the scholarships made a meaningful difference in their lives.

“In the past year I've been able to complete 32 credits thanks to the Patriot Bank scholarship. Originally, I was only able to afford three to six credits a semester. Thanks to the scholarship, I've been able to move forward at a faster pace,” said HCC student Corina. “For me, time is of the essence as I approach middle adulthood. The scholarship gave me the opportunity to learn subjects I only dreamed of learning, and I’ve added other skills to my list. I dream of one day earning my Ph.D. in psychology after attaining a master's degree in counseling, I want to help people cope with stress and the many emotional problems we face today.”

Patriot Bank leaders conveyed the firm’s dedication to social responsibility, especially its values of supporting the community and their commitment to Housatonic Community College scholars.

“Patriot Bank recognizes the great achievement and needs of these scholarship awardees. We believe our contributions as a partner to Housatonic Community College evidence our commitment to this community and belief in a new generation of scholars,” said Judith Corprew, Patriot Bank EVP, Chief Compliance, Risk and CRA Officer, as well as Housatonic Community College Foundation (HCCF) Board Vice President.

In 2020, Patriot Bank forged a financial literacy partnership with HCC through the creation of a co-branded financial literacy website, workshops and educational panels. The innovative financial literacy website-Housatonic.edu/finlit- offers tools to help students gain control of their financial lives, including articles and videos on budgeting, paying down debt, savings, credit and investing. Patriot Bank also offers a convenient Automatic Teller Machine on the HCC campus.

“We are deeply grateful for Patriot Bank’s ongoing support of Housatonic students,” said Kristy Jelenik, Housatonic Community College Foundation Executive Director. “Their scholarship grants and financial literacy program support helps to create brighter futures for Housatonic scholars, their families and the greater community.”

HCCF assists Housatonic Community College and its students by expanding access to quality, affordable higher education and workforce development training. They do this through a robust scholarship program, equity programs that support marginalized students, emergency assistance, book funds, and more.
