Why Small Businesses Matter in Bridgeport: Berlinetta Brewing

Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Berlinetta Brewing!

Three questions with Richard Ruggiero, founder of Berlinetta Brewing.

Why did you start your business?

My brother and I started Berlinetta to bring easy-to-drink, classic beer styles to the Connecticut beer scene. Adding to that experience, we decided to bring a music component to the business, where we sell vintage vinyl records as well and play music on an elaborate hand-built vacuum tube sound system.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our number one selling beer is our Velvet Pilsner; a classic Czech-style Pilsner beer, in honor of my wife, who is Czech. We also sell a pretty good amount of records!

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Covid did not affect our business plan, besides pushing our opening date by a year. Luckily as we opened our doors to the public, Covid restrictions were lifted and we could continue with our plan of being a taproom-focused brewery. As some customers may still be wary of Covid, we’re in the process of adding a lot of outdoor seating as well.
