Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Las Americas Real Estate!

Four questions with Oswaldo Torres, founder of Las Americas Real Estate.

Why did you start your business?

After arriving in this wonderful country from Cayambe, Ecuador, and working hard in different fields, I finally had the opportunity to become an entrepreneur and live the American dream. I decided to get into the Real Estate industry and so I got my license, then I became a Real Estate Broker. My first office was with Century 21 back in the late 90s where I achieved various awards and recognitions. Now today I am the broker and owner of Las Americas Real Estate located in Bridgeport.

My intention in opening my firm was to help the Hispanic community and all of our neighbors. My future goal is to expand my services throughout the United States.

What is your best-selling product/service?

My best product would be selling Residential Real Estate. Whether it be buying, selling, or renting. Being a broker with over 30 years of experience, I help guide clients from their first purchase turning it into the best investment for their future.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We work with a lot of small businesses that are in the community and also share with our clients a list of businesses that we recommend whether it be roofers, plumbers, electricians, and any other kind of contractors, attorneys, or insurance agents, and also restaurants. We like to help our clients invest and grow with the community.

Have you reimagined your small business?

With the pandemic, our business went from meeting in person and signing by pen to doing everything online! This has helped us to be more efficient, helping save time and contributing to reducing climate changes (going paperless)! I am always innovating and trying to keep my business up to date with the trends and current times.
