Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Toombs Creative!
Four questions with Alexandra Toombs, founder of Toombs Creative.
Why did you start your business?
As a marketer in Fairfield County, I loved my job but craved more freedom. I remembered how free I felt during a trip to Australia and New Zealand, and I wanted that feeling every day. So, when I returned to Connecticut, I started thinking about starting my own business. I began with freelance marketing for local companies, and soon, Toombs Creative grew from a simple freelance operation to a full-service marketing agency and business consultancy.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Our top service is a program called Marketing Mapped Out. It's designed to help small business owners make sense of marketing. We walk with them every step of the way, making marketing simple and fun. We've guided many groups through this course and now offer it as a one-on-one experience or a self-paced learning program.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
While Toombs Creative has partnerships all over the world, we have close ties in Fairfield County. Kelsey Banfield was the first business coach I hired when starting Toombs Creative. Her help was invaluable. David Hennessey and I have worked together for over three years, collaborating to build a successful company in Black Rock.
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
Toombs Creative has changed a lot over the years. We started as a freelance operation, then became a full-service marketing agency. Then we used our experience to teach other small business owners about marketing. Now, we're working with executive teams to build sustainable strategies, systems, and marketing departments. Though our customers have changed, our goal has always been the same: support businesses that make a positive difference in the world.
