Hi, my name is Henry the Hedgehog and I am the new HamletHub mascot!
I don't know exactly how I landed this job...I was sleeping peacefully yesterday when I was rudely woken up and lifted out of my cage. My owner brought me to a strange place and took pictures of me and told me that I'm going to become a star, but I would have been much more interested in going back to sleep.
As a hedgehog, my interests include eating, sleeping, playing with my toilet paper tube, and running on my wheel. I also love to go outside. My owner gets angry when I try to eat everything in sight, but she doesn't understand how exciting it is to be faced with so many food options.
I get baths every week. I do not like water at all, and being bathed is not as much fun as it sounds. However, after my baths, I get dried off with a hairdryer. I love to be warm, so I usually calm down after a few minutes and eventually fall asleep.
Anyways, yesterday was my first day on the job, and I think I did pretty well. I'm a pretty cute little guy, even on my grumpy days. I'll be showing up here and there as the HamletHub Brookfield mascot, so look for me in upcoming stories.
Hedgehogs are a member of the shrew family. There are 17 species of hedgehogs found across Europe, Africa, Asia, and New Zealand. Henry is an African Pygmy Hedgehog. Hedgehogs are very common in the wild in Europe and are often found in gardens and yards. They have only been domesticated recently, and owning one still requires a license in some states. Hedgehogs are covered in 5,000-6,5000 quills, which are used as protection and shock absorbers. When frightened or angry, hedgehogs curl into a ball, causing all of their spines to point outwards. They cannot shoot their quills out like a porcupine. Hedgehogs are primarily nocturnal, and their diet in the wild consists mostly of insects. Domesticated hedgehogs are often fed formulated hedgehog food or low-protein cat food. Henry eats Blue Buffalo Healthy Weight cat food. He was special ordered from Pets Supplies Plus in Brookfield.
