Newtown Mourns Passing of Fire and Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Pete Blomberg

Remembering Assistant Fire Chief Pete Blomberg

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Botsford Fire and Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Pete Blomberg. Tragically, Pete was struck by a vehicle last evening while crossing Church Hill Road in the crosswalk on his way to the Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners' annual meeting in Sandy Hook. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Danbury Hospital.

A lifelong Newtown resident, Pete attended St. Rose of Lima School and graduated from Newtown High School. He began his career as an apprentice cabinetmaker, becoming an accomplished finish carpenter—a craft he continued to practice throughout his life. Most recently, Pete worked in maintenance for Newtown Public Schools, a position he held until six weeks ago.

Pete’s greatest joy was his family and friends. He is survived by his four daughters, Lindsey, Lauren, Sara, and Jillian, and his beloved grandson, Everett.

With a fire service career spanning over fifty years, Pete began with the Hawleyville Fire Company before joining Botsford Fire Rescue about thirty years ago. Rising through the ranks, he ultimately became First Assistant Chief. A dedicated volunteer and State Fire Instructor, Pete taught regional Firefighter 1 and 2 classes and served as a certified Station Evaluator at evaluation sites across the area.

Outside of firefighting, Pete was known for his storytelling, his love of rock music, and his years in concert security. A passionate Harley Davidson enthusiast, Pete touched the lives of many with his warmth and generosity. He will be deeply missed by Newtown's fire community and beyond.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Pete’s family during this difficult time. His family requests privacy at this time, and funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
