PUBLIC WORKS

Please use caution during snowstorms and remember:

When garbage pick-up coincides with a snowstorm, please keep your garbage cans off the street and either behind the curb or in your driveway. They can get in the way of the plows. Please do not park your vehicle on the road or in the town right-of-way during snowstorms. Remove any items that would prevent plowing off the road.

The Residential Yard Refuse Center will be open on January 4 and January 11 for Christmas tree drop-offs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

REGISTRAR OF VOTERS

Connecticut state law requires the Registrars of Voters to conduct an annual canvass of voters beginning in January. This process helps keep voter registration records up-to-date. Notices are sent to voters who have filed a change of address with the post office or moved out of town.

NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS

The second installment of real estate and personal property taxes are due January 1, 2025. The motor vehicle supplemental bills are also due January 1, 2025. The bills were mailed in December. The last day to pay without penalty is February 3, 2025. Payments can be made by mail, the online portal, or visiting our office during business hours. We accept personal checks, money orders and bank checks. We only accept cash up to $500.

Fire Marshal's Office

It is important to keep fire safety in mind when you are heating your home! More fires happen in the winter months than at any other time of the year. During the cold months, we spend more time indoors and use different methods to heat our homes.

If you are using a portable heater:

  • Make sure the heater has an automatic shut-off so if it tips over, it shuts off.
  • Keep anything that can burn such as bedding, clothing, and curtains at least 3 feet from the heater.
  • Plug portable heaters directly into wall outlets. Never use an extension cord or power strip.
  • Turn heaters off when you go to bed or leave the room.
