“Touch A Truck” Event to Benefit New Milford Police Department’s K9 Unit

Help New Milford Police add a Therapy dog to their ranks

Fire Trucks, cruisers, and even a sleek race car straight off the tracks will be awaiting families and children of all ages to honk horns and sound sirens at Litchfield Crossings annual “Touch A Truck” on Sept 21, 9 am to 2 pm. Young attendees will have the thrill of climbing into the driver’s seats and meeting their local heroes.

This year’s event will benefit the New Milford Police K-9 Unit, funding the care and training of their new therapy dog.

Best of all, everyone will have the opportunity of meeting the K9 unit’s brave, noble celebrities including, a Bloodhound Ella, Rio, a German Shorthaired Pointer, both trackers, and Mattis, a lab whose specialty is in narcotics detection.

Says New Milford Lt. Michael LaFond, “We are all anxiously awaiting the new K-9 member…an Officer Wellness/ Community Outreach dog who is currently in training. The Lab will be focused on the internal Officer’s well-being as well as acting as a community ambassador, visiting schools, hospitals, and senior centers.”

And if you want to take home your very own furry friend, visit Petco’s Adoption Center. Their puppy pros will not only match you with a four-pawed companion …they’ll also advise you on training, grooming, and health care. Plus, gift you, both, with a big bag of treats!

Additionally, there will be a Child Safety Seat Installations Clinic by Certified Child Passenger Seat Technicians who will be on hand to make sure your child safety seats are installed properly and being used correctly. No longer do you have an engineering degree to install a child’s safety seat, just spend a few minutes with New Milford’s finest.

Adds Kristen N. Gizzi, Executive Director of New Milford’s largest shopping center, “Litchfield Crossings is proud to host this community event to support and raise awareness of the New Milford Police Department’s K-9 unit. I would like to thank the event participants including All American Waste, Petco, Bright Path, Auto Technic, and Water Witch Hose Company. We invite you to join us for a day of fun and to support the town’s K-9 Unit.”

All proceeds from donations collected during the event will directly benefit the New Milford Police Department’s K-9 Unit, helping support the costs of training and caring for their newest therapy dog member.
