A Salute to a Connecticut Vet

Dr. Linda Schwartz is making the Nutmeg State proud. She's been nominated to become the new Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs for Policy and Planning in Washington.

Dr. Schwartz is the first woman in history to have served as Commissioner of The Connecticut Department of Veterans' Affairs, a job she's held since 2003.

The pioneer is Yale educated with a Masters in Nursing and a Doctorate in Public Health. She was in the Air Force from 1967-1986, and is a compassionate champion for our vets. In 2005, for instance, she applied for and received a $22M matching grant from the US Department of Veterans Affairs to construct the Levitow Health Center in Rocky Hill, which provides care to 125 veterans with chronic disease. She is also President of the Board of the Connecticut State Veterans Memorial.  Thanks to her Board, a memorial is is being constructed in Hartford to honor all CT vets. Dr.Schwartz testified on behalf of our veterans to numerous bodies, including both Houses of Congress.  She's walked the walk, and she can talk the talk.

Dr. Schwartz, you're a hero!
