Brookfield awarded State Grant to improve housing

State Rep. David Scribner (R-107) is applauding the announcement of a $400,000 state grant to fund housing repairs and rehabilitation in the Town of Brookfield.

The federal Small Cities Community Development Block Grant will be used to correct health and safety issues in approximately 12 households, including septic repairs; new doors, gutters and windows; installation of fire and carbon monoxide detectors; roof replacement and environmental testing and abatement.

"I'm pleased this federal funding will help eliminate building code deficiencies and improve day-to-day life for families in need," Rep. Scribner said. "These repairs are essential to ensuring our neighbors are residing in safe, healthy conditions and come at no cost to the Town of Brookfield."

The funds for this program come from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development and are administered through the State of Connecticut's Department of Housing.

The Community Development Block Grant Program provides funding and technical support for projects that achieve local community and economic development objectives, and principally benefits low-and moderate-income persons. This program is available to Connecticut towns and cities with populations of less than 50,000.
