WCSU Film Festival features 80 student submissions

WCSU film festival to take place online

The show will go on! The Western Connecticut State University Sixth Annual Media Arts Film Festival, presented by the Broadcast Education Association and the WCSU Alumni Association, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, via YouTube and Facebook.

The festival features the best from 80 student submissions in the Communication & Media Arts, Art and Digital & Interactive Media Arts departments. The top three short films from each category will be screened. Categories include studio/news, animation/experimental, drama/comedy, documentary, digital & interactive media, PSA/commercial, music video, screenplay and soundscape. Entries are evaluated by a panel of 11 faculty and alumni judges, culminating in the Awards of Excellence and the prestigious Best of Show award. Trophies supplied by the BEA and Alumni Association will be awarded.

Festival Director and Professor of Communication & Media Arts Dr. JC Barone said of the festival, “It’s a great way to end the semester and support creative student work.”

Traditionally a black-tie event, this year the festival will be presented virtually to allow attendees to enjoy the event from the comfort of their home. Barone said, “We want the WCSU community, in particular, to be able to ‘attend’ the festival this year.” Viewers are encouraged to attend at the scheduled time, as a recording of the festival will not be made available for later viewing. The web addresses for the festival are below:
