Lessons and Carols in Brookfield on Christmas Eve

The Festival of Lessons and Carols, a historic musical service will be presented at Valley Presbyterian Church at 21 West Whisconier Road in Brookfield CT on December 24 at 5:00pm.

Accompaniment and special music will be performed with violin, cello, organ and piano. The service of Lessons and Carols was first held on Christmas Eve in 1918 at King’s College, Cambridge, England.

The choir included sixteen trebles as laid down in King Henry VI’s statutes. The Service was first performed as a way of celebrating the end of the First World War. The college Dean, Eric Milner-White, who had been an Army Chaplain in WWI, wanted a different and more positive way of celebrating Christmas for the choir and people in the college. The service will conclude with a congregational candlelight as a send off.

The program promises to delight audiences of all ages and all are welcome. For more information, call the church office at 203-775-2624.
