Brookfield Matters: referendum on Tuesday, parade canceled, town is powered up

In this installment of Brookfield Matters First Selectman, Steve Dunn talks voting, storm, Memorial Day and bus routes.

Vote Tuesday

The referendum on the town budget is this coming Tuesday. We urge everyone to come out and vote from 6AM to 8PM at Huckleberry and at the High School. This referendum is for the operating budgets of the town and the schools. The Capital budget will go to referendum again in July per our Charter. A sample ballot and copy of the budget are available on the Town Website.

Storm Update

Almost every house now has power and Eversource has finished their work in restoring power to the town. Frontier still has crews in town restoring the poles that they own. You may see Frontier trucks replacing poles and hanging wires. After that is done another crew comes in and splices the wires and then a third crew will come in, and where needed, hook up individual homes and businesses. They will be working through the weekend to get everyone up and running.

Memorial Day

We have canceled the parade due to safety concerns. We will be having a ceremony to honor those who have fallen in service to our country at Williams Park on Monday at 12 noon. Please come and help us celebrate our fallen.

School Bus Routes

The schools are working very hard with our emergency operations staff and our Public Works Department along with the bus company to return to our normal routes. Please watch for email alerts from the Superintendent on the status of the bus routes. This information will also be available on the town's websiteschool's website and Facebook page.
