Candlewood Lake Study Update at Brookfield Town Hall on August 22

Candlewood Lake Study Update on Thursday, August 22 from 7 – 9 p.m. at Brookfield Town Hall, Room 133.

The Brookfield Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA) will hold a public meeting on its Wastewater Study of the approximate 1,500 properties in the Brookfield Candlewood Lake drainage area and their impact on Candlewood Lake.

The study is partially funded by a CT Clean Water Fund grant. The meeting will present findings on the following Project components:

ü Study Area Characteristics and Existing Data Review

ü Initial definition on a lot by lot basis of wastewater management needed improvements based upon public health and Lake water quality considerations.

During the meeting, a breakout session will be held for property owners/tenants to review findings for their lot and to speak with the project engineers.

Proposed Study area sites for field testing to determine septic nitrogen and phosphorus contributions to Candlewood Lake Future meetings will address:

Ø Final determination of needed improvements on lot by lot basis & Initial screening of options for addressing the needed improvements, tentatively scheduled for November – December 2019

Ø Proposed Solution(s) Scenarios for addressing needs along with capital and annual O&M costs, tentatively scheduled for February – March 2020

Ø Preferred Scenario Plan along with refined cost estimates and Implementation Plan, tentatively scheduled for May 2020
