Brookfield resident Laurel P. Cohen, 79, has died

Laurel P. Cohen 

Laurel Pearl (Wallach) Cohen, 79, of Brookfield, wife of Stephen Cohen, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Danbury Hospital. 

Mrs. Cohen was born in New York, a daughter of Moe and Byrde Wallach. Raised in Yonkers, she attended Yonkers schools and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Mrs. Cohen, an education major, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and a Masters degree from Columbia University. 

An educator, Mrs. Cohen taught at the Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary School of Yonkers and with the Brookfield CT School system. 

A resident of Brookfield since 1981 coming from Rockland County, NY, Mrs. Cohen was a member of the United Jewish Center of Danbury. 

In addition to her husband Stephen of forty-nine years, she is survived by three daughters, Mindy Stockfield and her husband Rick of Patterson, NY, Arlene Cohen of Plainsboro, NJ and Rebecca Rosenzweig and her husband Jeremy of Monroe, CT; a sister Beverly Wolkis of Queens, NY; and five grandchildren, Shane, Evan and Calvin Stockfield and Abigail and Brett Rosenzweig. 

Funeral services will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. at the United Jewish Center, 141 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury with Cantor Dr. Penny Kessler officiating. 

Interment will follow in Sharon Gardens, Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. 

The family will receive friends at the United Jewish Center on Friday from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. 

Contributions in Mrs. Cohen’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association. 

Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
