Brookfield First Grader Wins 1st Place in Byrd's Books Bookmark Contest!

For six years, Bethel's Byrd's Books has celebrated the bookmark, a quintessential detail of an enthusiastic reader's stack of unfinished books. Each year in May, the independent bookstore invites bookworms to design a bookmark inspired by their favorite book, and this year's entries proved remarkable in their variety...and their quantity.

In fact, the 2020 Bookmark Contest received so many entries in the pre-K through 3rd category that Byrd's Books had to award two equally deserving winners. Each of the winners get a $25 Gift Certificate to Byrd's Books and 25 of their bookmarks in print. The bookstore prints 100 of each design and uses them all summer to give away in the books.

The Honorable Mentions each get a $10 Gift Certificate to the bookstore. Owner Alice Hutchinson couldn't be more pleased. She says, "I know picking winners from so many great entries is always a tough job. My thanks go out to the members of Bethel Arts for taking on the difficult job of judging and to all the entrants for their spirited love of books and reading."
