Brookfield Craft Center hosts an Art Exhibition: “Fragments of Culture: A Collection of works by Mary Lou Alberetti”

The Brookfield Craft Center, will host an exhibition showcasing the works of Mary Lou Alberetti. This exhibition will open on June 15th and run through July 7th. The public are invited to meet the artist and discuss her work at an opening reception June 15th, from 5-8pm in the Lynn Tendler Bignell Gallery located in the Craft Center’s main building at 286 Whisconier Road (Route 25).

About the Artist - Throughout Mary Lou Alberetti’s career as an artist, she has lived and taught in Italy, France, and Ireland and studied their architecture looking for clues and insight from the fragments left behind. Her creative impulse and curiosity have found expression in clay sculpture, reliefs, mixed media, and collages. She uses architectural, historical, and contemporary references to create work that distills the beauty and lessons of antiquity as well as explore how fragments of a culture embody its aesthetic and philosophical underpinnings.

Mary Lou has been a longtime supporter of the Brookfield Craft Center. Throughout the years she has taken ceramic classes from notable visiting artists: Hui Ka Kwong, Paul Soldner, and Ruth Duckworth. She has also taught a wide variety of classes in the Ceramic Studio including but not limited to: Raku, Sculpture, and Intro to Ceramics. In the 1970s she served on the board of directors and has since been a consistent member of the BCC community.

About the Brookfield Craft Center - The Brookfield Craft Center (BCC) was founded in 1952 and is recognized as one of the core fine craft schools in America. The center, incorporated in 1954 is a 501(c)(3) organization, offering classes and workshops in glass arts, woodturning, ceramics, jewelry, blacksmithing, fiber arts, drawing and painting, digital arts and other creative endeavors for children and adults taught by professional faculty. The historic Mill Building (ca 1780) Gift Shop and Exhibition Gallery is a beautiful venue for displaying fine craft. All works are carefully juried and are representative of the type of skills individuals can learn in our classes. As a force for arts advocacy and community building, Brookfield Craft Center strives to teach and preserve the skills of fine craftsmanship, and to enable creativity and personal growth through craft education.
