Newtown Police Charge Brookfield Man with Falsely Reporting an Incident and Misuse of 911

On Monday evening at about 8:30 pm Newtown Police responded to a report of a 5-10 person fight in progress at an address on Berkshire Road. Upon police arrival and investigation, it was determined that there was no such fight at the residence and that the incident was falsely reported by a party who may have wanted to "get back" at an ex-girlfriend at the residence.

Police were able to track down the caller, who was identified as Erik Gilstad, age 40, of Brookfield, CT. and placed him under arrest. Gilstad was charged with falsely reporting an incident and misuse of 911.

Gilstad was released after posting a $500.00 cash bond.

"Due to nature of the 911 call a large police response was initiated, only to find out it was a hoax. It is very disturbing as the lives of our officers responding lights and sirens, the homeowners safety, and the general public were put at risk for a selfish individual who put revenge in front of every one's safety" Lt. Aaron Bahamonde.
