Danbury Police Make 2nd Arrest in Mall Shooting

Danbury Police have announced the arrest of a second teen involved in the altercation which led to the shooting of a 15 year old female inside Danbury Fair Mall on August 11th.

According to the Police, 18-year-old Derek Sotelo of Danbury was arrested yesterday (8/24) after investigators say he was identified as part of the altercation that led to the shooting inside of the mall.

Police said that Danbury Fair surveillance footage led them to believe that Sotelo was “armed with a hammer and presented it as a weapon” in an altercation with an opposing group of people which included the 14 year old triggerman, who was arrested after he, accompanied by his parents, turned himself into authorities on August 16th. A 15 year old female was shot in the chest during the incident and is recovering at this time.

Sotelo has been taken into custody and is currently being held on a $100,000 bond on charges which include, criminal attempt to commit assault, reckless endangerment, inciting a riot, inciting injury to a person, risk of injury to a minor, and breach of peace.

He is currently in the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.

Police have said this is still an open and active investigation.
