Last Sunday night Brewster firefighters were dispatched to the area behind the Brewster Train Station for a report of a man trapped in a mine.

The man, who was reportedly from Somers, and four friends went exploring into the sealed off mines and became trapped on a lower ledge. His friends tried for hours to get him out and eventually realized they couldn't. The Fire Department was notified and arrived on the scene shortly after 9 p.m.

According to Brewster Fire Captain Christopher Frank, two firefighters descended a "steep ravine" rescue by rope on the side of Marvin Mountain near the Brewster train station to reach the man, who was stuck on the second level of the mine. He was pulled from the mine shortly before midnight and reportedly was not injured.
