Carmel Board of Education - Meeting and Budget News


Wednesday, April 24, 2024: Board of Education Meeting, George Fischer Middle School Auditorium, 6:30 p.m. The Board will immediately recognize the Future Business Leaders of America club and the Tenure Recipients and then propose an entry into Executive Session with a 30-minute limit. Public participation will follow and the 2024-25 School Year Budget is expected to be adopted.

Facilities & Transportation, 4:30 – 5:20 p.m.

Audit, Finance & Personnel, 5:30 – 6:20 pm.

Library Classroom #2:

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, 4:30 – 5:15 p.m.

Special Education, Support & Wellness, 5:15 – 6:15 p.m.


SCHOOL BUDGET NEWS:

The Board is expected to adopt a proposed budget at its meeting on Wednesday, April 24. The proposed budget will go to the voters on May 21.

The district's $11.8 million Safety & Security Capital Project was adopted by the Board of Education on March 26 and will appear on the May 21 ballot as Proposition #2.

NOMINATION PETITIONS FOR SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES

Two (2) seats on the Board of Education are open. The two (2) candidates with the highest number of votes will be sworn in; each to serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2024, and ending June 30, 2027. Anyone interested in becoming a candidate for the position of Trustee of the Board of Education should contact the District Clerk, Joanne Stevens, at jstevens@carmelschools.org or 845-878-2094, ext. 201, for the necessary documents. Nominating petitions must be returned to the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024. This year, petitioners must collect 68 signatures from eligible voters. It is recommended that petitioners collect additional signatures beyond the required number, in case one or more signatures are found to be invalid. Any eligible voter may sign Nominating Petitions for those seeking the position of Trustee of the Board of Education in the Carmel Central School District and may sign petitions for more than one candidate. Eligible voters must be: a citizen of the United States; at least 18 years of age; and, a school district resident for at least 30 days prior to the Annual Election.
