Full Snow Moon: There will be a full moon on Saturday, February 24.
February 24, 2024, will see the Full Snow Moon, also known as the Bone Moon, Hunger Moon, and Little Famine Moon. It is named so because of the association of February with extreme cold and death. However, not all cultures associate it with such negative connotations. The Hopi tribe calls it the Moon of Purification and Renewal. While in China, it is celebrated during the Lantern Festival. At this event, people release lanterns and eat rice balls. The round shape of the rice balls symbolizes family togetherness and brings good luck to the whole family—many East Asian cultures light lanterns and bonfires to celebrate the Full Snow Moon.
