National Weather Service Issues Winter Weather Advisories

Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for the Lower Hudson Valley, Southern CT, and portions of interior northeast NJ from 9 pm this evening to 10 am Monday morning.

Snow/Sleet/Ice:
  • Light to moderate snow is forecast to develop across the Tri-State region late this evening through midnight. The snow will mix with sleet overnight before transitioning to a wintry mix of freezing rain and snow across the interior, and mainly light rain and drizzle for the NYC/NJ metro and Long Island early Monday morning.  The precipitation will taper off to a drizzle or freezing drizzle across the interior during the late morning.
  • Total snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible across northeastern NJ, NYC metro and Long Island, with 2 to 3 inches across the Lower Hudson Valley and Southern CT.
  • A few hundredths of an inch of ice is possible for areas N&W of NYC, particularly the Lower Hudson Valley and Interior Southern CT with a possible trace of ice across the NYC/NJ metro and LI before a transition to rain or drizzle Monday morning.
  • Travel will be hazardous due to snow and ice covered surfaces Monday morning. The Monday evening commute will likely remain hazardous across portions of the interior as temperatures hover around the freezing mark, especially secondary roads and untreated surfaces. Black ice formation is possible across the entire region Monday Night as temperatures fall back below freezing.
