Carmel Knights of Columbus Honors their own at Founders Day BBQ

The Knights of Columbus, Lady of the Lake Council #6318 held its 4th annual Founders day awards  (Also known as the Trongone award) and summer kick off BBQ last evening at the Council Hall on Fair Street. Honoree George Dunkiel was the Man of the Hour and honored by his fellow Knights for his 60+ years service to the Order. Mr Dunkel was founding member of the Lady of the Lakes Council when the Council was chartered on November 4, 1971.

Mr Dunkel thanked his fellow Knights, children and 11 grandchildren whom were ll in attendance but especially his wife of 62 years. The awards ceremony took place at the end of the evening after attendees enjoyed a meal served by the Knights and planned, prepped and cooked by Past Grand Knight Rob Firriolo whose skills at a stove and a grill are legendary in the Carmel Knights community. County Executive and County Legislator Carl Albano were on hand to issue Mr. Dunkel a Proclamation on his 60 years of service and 94th Assembly District Representative Kevin Byrne also read a proclamation from the NY State Assembly to commemorate Mr Dunkel's service.

The Knights also honored Rev. Szymon Kurpios for his years of dedication to the St James the Apostle Parish and the Knights. Fellow St James Priest, Rev. Adolphus Muoghalu, was also honored for his service to the parish, the Knights and the community in whole. Rev. Szyman is being re-assigned by the Archdiocese and Rev. Adolphus is returning to active service in the US Army at Fort Campbell Ky.
