High School Student Creates Fundraising Event at the Jefferson Valley Mall where Children and Adults can Participate in Memory-Related Games.
Lulu Stvan, a junior and honors student from Staples High School in Westport, CT with a passion for journalism, has created a fundraising event at the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown Heights, NY that she has named “Memory Marathon” to benefit the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The event will be held on Saturday, February 8th from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. There will be memory-related games set up on the second floor level of the mall where children and adults are invited to participate in exchange for donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Lulu’s fundraiser coincides with her community service project entitled, “Remember When,” which will open to the public that day. Lulu collected quotes from local residents and photographs recalling memories that showcase the history of the Mall and how it has been such an important part of the Northern Westchester and Putnam County area. The attached image is one of the photos that will be in the collection on display. Lulu’s project highlights the importance of maintaining memories as a community and as individuals. Her project provides the opportunity to retell and share these memories with the community and encourages others to think about what the Mall has meant to them.
There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 8th at the North Main Entrance, across from Kay Jewelers as Lulu’s exhibition officially opens to the public.
