School Board Election & Budget Voting

On Friday, May 1, 2020 Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order stating the Annual School District Budget Vote & Board Member election is to take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 BY ABSENTEE BALLOT ONLY.
 
SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES
If you are interested in running for the Board of Education, nomination petitions and the first expenditure statement are due by Monday, May 11, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. Completed petitions may be emailed to sdieck@carmelschools.org or mailed to Sue Dieck, District Clerk, 81 South St., P.O. Box 296, Patterson, NY 12563. (The nomination packet is also available on our website at https://www.carmelschools.org/budget__audits)
 
Individuals interested in running for the Board of Education must have the following qualifications:
  • Be able to read and write
  • Be a qualified voter of this district (U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age)
  • Be a resident of this school district for at least one continuous and uninterrupted year prior to the election
  • Be the only member of a family serving on the Board of Education at the time of the election
  • May not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding year
  • May not be a current employee of the school board (when the term of office begins)
  • May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office
 
For the 2020-2021 school year, two (2) seats are up for election. The seats are for three (3) year terms from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2023 and will be filled by the candidates who receive the most votes.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS
Qualified voters of the district will receive absentee ballots by mail--no need to apply. To be a qualified voter you must be a U.S. Citizen, at least 18 years old by June 9, 2020, a School District resident for 30 days immediately preceding the vote, and registered to vote in School District elections. You must also have voted in any School District election/vote during the past 4 calendar years. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, there will be no personal voter registration held at school district offices prior to the June 9, 2020 vote.
