Carmel High School Graduates Given A Fond Farewell

The Carmel High School Class of 2020 was sent off into their futures on Saturday with a grand parade along Gleneida Avenue in Carmel. Carmel Town Councilman Frank Lombardi emcee’d the parade from the steps of the Historic County Courthouse.

The 200 or so graduates, (there were approx. 340 graduates in this year's class) along with friends and family began lining up in the Palladin Center parking lot on Seminary Hill Road about 5:15 and at 6:30 they began the parade of vehicles down Seminary Hill Road onto Gleinda Avenue where they were met by a huge crowd of townsfolk wishing them well. As they passed the Historic Courthouse, Councilman Lombardi read out each Graduates name and the College or University they planned to attend. Graduates planning on Military careers were also given recognition.

Councilman Lombardi posted several pictures of the event on his Personal Facebook page and one commenter, resident  Debbie Dillon said “It was so much fun! Thank you to everyone who made this special event happen. It was a wonderful celebration of our seniors. I hope they do it every year!”

The caravan of Graduates then continued onto Fair Street where it ended in the High School Parking lot amidst many smiles, laughs and a few tears from those who realized that an era was ending. The parade was organized by Community Leaders and Town Officials, the School District held its formal Graduation Ceremony earlier in the week.
