What You Need to Know About High Intensity Interval Training

The biggest excuse I hear from people as to why they lost traction in that New Years fitness routine… TIME! We live in a busy society where having no time due to over packed schedules is a badge of honor. (I think we need to retool this notion, but that’s beside the point). In addition, people seem to have a misconception that they need to spend hours in a gym to get any real weight loss results, which is totally not true.

So what do we need? Short and effective workouts that provide amazing results! Sound attractive!?
Enter HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts!

What is HIIT Training

As the acronym implies, HIIT training is comprised of short bursts of near maximum effort of work followed by periods of active recovery or short rests. These intense intervals can range from seconds to minutes, and may include fitness equipment or the body alone. HIIT is even used in running to increase speed and endurance.

Why Choose HIIT Training
Increase heart health: Oftentimes people don’t push themselves in a workout to their anaerobic zone, that can’t breathe, feel like you might pass out or die kind of place. But when you are doing short intervals, the body can endure that level of work and increase cardiovascular endurance.

Burn more fat: HIIT training has been shown to burn 7 to 9 times more calories than steady state cardio, and given the heart’s maximum intensity level training and active recovery periods, it has also been found to burn calories long after the workout period has ended due to increased production of HGH (human growth hormone). In addition, studies show that weight loss from HIIT training comes primarily from fat reserves rather than muscle mass!

Save precious time: So there we have it, HIIT training is your key to never using time as an excuse not to get your workout in. In addition, you can get your workout in quickly and have time for more of the special people and activities you enjoy in life.
