Preparing for the High Holidays

The Reform Temple of Putnam Valley is offering three free events open to the community for personal preparation for the High Holidays:  a one-night Hebrew Refresher Class on Wednesday night, September 18, an adult education evening focusing on spiritual growth on Thursday, Sept. 19 and a Movie Night on Saturday, September 21 for the observation of Selichot, an evening to think deeply about teshuvah, returning to the true self.  All of the events will be held at the temple located at 362 Church Road in Putnam Valley.

On Wednesday, September 18th, a free One-Night Hebrew Refresher Class will be taught by member Roni Rodman from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.   It will provide an opportunity to improve your Hebrew reading skills. In just a few hours of review, you will learn to read Hebrew like you never thought possible.  You will receive review sheets and a handy Aleph-Bet chart. RSVP to RTPVinfo@gmail.com

An Adult Education Class on Thursday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m.,  Rabbi Steve Altarescu will discuss “Preparing Our Souls for the High Holy Days” and how we can nourish our spirits regularly in our daily lives.  RSVP to RTPVrabbis@gmail.com

On Saturday, September 21st at 7:30 p.m., the temple will present a thought-provoking documentary movie “Hiding and Seeking: Faith and Tolerance After the Holocaust”. Refreshments and discussion will follow.  The 85-minute movie is about a father who takes his two sons to Poland to seek out the Catholic family that hid their grandfather from the Nazis.  The movies raises questions about morality and the legacy we leave behind.  RSVP to RTPVinfo@gmail.com
