GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - Putnam County Veterans Service Agency Requests the Public Attend Services For A Veteran With No Family

The Putnam County Veterans service agency is inviting the community to services for a veteran who passed away recently with no family left to mourn his passing. Below is an open letter by Agency Director Karl Rohdes to the community.

There are few events as sad as a Veteran dying alone and being forgotten. Sadly Ambrose Jacob died alone recently. He will however not be forgotten. At least by the Putnam County Veterans Service Agency. We are not here to just assist the living but to assist those who have answered the last call.

As our ranks grow thinner we are called upon to preform these solemn duties” This was once part of the VFW Funeral Ritual. To see a Veteran off is truly one of the most important duty that we can give our departed comrades.

Ambrose Jacob was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a Communication Center Specialist with the 44th Signal Battalion, Long Bihn Vietnam near Saigon.

Ambrose was born in Yonkers. Entered the Army from Ardsley and eventually settled in Kent, NY in Putnam County.

He achieved the rank of Specialsit 4th Class (SP4) He entered the Army in 1964 and was discharged in 1967. While service in the Army he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with device-60 and Vietnam Service Ribbon with three overseas service bars. He was separated from the Army with an Honorable Discharge at the US Army Personal Center in Oakland, California.

This Wednesday At 9:30 AM at the Cargain Funeral Home in Carmel we will be sending Ambrose Jacob on his final journey to the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

We are asking people of the community to join with us as we honor this Vietnam Veteran. We will begin to gather at 9AM. He will be honored with a brief service that will conclude with the playing of TAPS as his final journey commences.
Please join with us.

Karl
